We want to believe that everyone on this Earth is nice and would never do anything to hurt another person. Is a wonderful thought, but not the truth. There are strangers, or people you dot know, who you should not trust.

In this exercise you will learn how to tell the difference between someone who is a trusted adult and strangers who might mean you harm. You will learn what to do and how to keep yourself safe from danger. This lesson is called, If you see a stranger, remember the danger. We will repeat this saying a lot so that in the end you will know how to keep yourself safe.

Hi my name is Carrie. I am going to teach you how to keep yourself safe from strangers. As you grow up yoll start to do more things by yourself, without the help of your parents.

You will learn how to tie your shoes. You will learn how to set the table. If your Mom and Dad are lucky, yoll learn how to clean up after yourself! But the most important lesson you will learn while growing up is how to take care of yourself.

There will be times when your Mom or Dad wot be there to protect you. Yoll have to remember what to do to protect yourself, especially from strangers. Just like there are good apples and rotten apples, there are good people and rotten people.

There might be a time when yore walking alone to the bus stop. You might be walking to school with friends or playing in a neighborhood where you dot live. These are times when a stranger might try to talk to you. A good thing to do is wear a whistle around your neck to use when you get scared. This will draw attention to you and people will notice the stranger and help you.

These are examples of when you must be smart and safe. Is up to you to protect yourself. Look around you and be aware of whas going on. This is the first step in protecting yourself from the dangers of strangers. Ask yourself these questions when you are looking around. Is someone walking up to you or following you that you dot know?

Is there stranger looking at you from a nearby car that you dot recognize? Is a stranger trying to get you to help them find someone or something? These are all ways that strangers will try and trick you. They will be sneaky, but you can outsmart them. The best thing to do is run and yell until you get to an adult you know. You could run into a store and tell them to call the police.

My brother Patrick and I walk to school together. We know that it is safer to walk with a friend or two instead of alone. The more people you have in a group, the safer you are from strangers. We know that we should be looking around at all times, watching for people who look suspicious. Being smart means staying safe!

Never get into a car without the permission of your parents. Strangers may tell you that they have a message from your parents or that something happened to your family. They will try to trick you into going with them.

Our Mom gave us a secret code word so we know when a message is coming from her. If someone says the code word to us, then we know is safe to go with them. Otherwise, never go with anybody, especially a stranger. Keep your code word a secret between you and your parents. Dot even tell your best friend.

If someone is trying to get you into their car, run away and find a parent, police officer, or teacher you trust. Tell them right away! You have the power to save your life and the lives of others.

Another good thing to remember is dot take anything from anyone without checking with your parents first. Someone might try to give you candy, cookies, or something else. Never take anything from anyone.

Always say NO if someone is making you uncomfortable or trying to get you to do something you dot want to do.

Our Mom told us that the one time we can yell and scream really loud is when a stranger keeps talking to us after we have told them no. Especially if they are trying to get us to go somewhere. Scream, yell really loud, and run away! The best thing to do after that is find a trusted adult.
