Background: In the first feature film based on the hugely popular American Girl®¨ book series, Oscar¨ nominee Abigail Breslin stars as Kit Kittredge†, a resourceful young girl whose bravery, compassion and determination help her solve a mystery that saves her family’s home during the Great Depression.
When a crime spree sweeps Cincinnati, all signs point to where two of Kit's friends live with a group of their impoverished companions. Kit® convinces her new friends to take her to see the area known as the Hobo Jungle, and writes an article that creates a sympathetic portrait of the camp’s residents. But when Kit’s mother and their boarders become the latest victims in a string of robberies, Kit’s loyalties are tested.
Hobo Jungle Poetry
Create a poem, or a series of poems, based around the Hobo Jungle.
Write a set of haiku poems about the Hobo Jungle. A haiku is a short poem which is defined by it's structure of syllables. The poem must have three lines with five, seven, and five syllables respectively.
Create a Hobo Poem by cutting out words from magazines and newspapers and pasting them onto a new page to create your poem.
Create an initial poem. Write the letters HOBOJUNGLE vertically (one letter per line). Start each line of the poem with each of the initials.
Create a Random Word Poem by printing out the Kit Random Word List, closing your eyes and choosing 7 - 10 words from the list. All of the words must appear in the poem.
